Paul Brock is one of the founding Principals at Specified Lighting Systems and has a diversified background including construction, real estate and business management. The cornerstone to Paul’s lighting knowledge came early in his career, working as a field electrician on commercial projects in northern Indiana. He branched out into real estate and property management, after moving to Phoenix, AZ in the late 80’s. He has over 20 years of experience in the Indianapolis lighting industry, from which he has gained an appreciation of the entire design/ build process; from specifications to the on-site needs of the contractor. While Paul is responsible for day-to-day operations at Specified Lighting Systems, he still enjoys engaging with customers in an outside sales role.
Bruce has over 40 years of experience in various facets of the lighting industry. His exposure started as a factory sales rep for Lightolier in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; from there he branched into the corporate side, gaining in-depth exposure to all manufacturing and product design processes within Lithonia’s downlighting division. Bruce also served as a regional manager for Lithonia’s Hi-tek group, which included their industrial and site lighting division. In 1992 he became an integral part of Indianapolis’ lighting specification market, and has won acclaim as a reliable resource among his customers. In 2001 Bruce partnered with Paul Brock to form Specified Lighting Systems, helping to garner state-wide representation of Cooper Lighting.
Melinda has a BFA from Ball State University, and began her career as a commercial interior designer at several of Indianapolis’s top A/D firms. Her decade long design career gives her a fundamental knowledge of the design/build processes; spatial dynamics, CD’s (Autocad), specifications and on-site project management. These skills have set her apart when assisting local architects, designers and engineers in creating unique lighting environments. She is passionate about staying educated on lamp technology, lighting techniques and current architectural trends; it’s her endeavor that Specified continue their mark as a true lighting resource within the design community. Melinda has been a team member since Specified Lighting’s inception in 2001.
Sandra has been with Specified Lighting since 2007, joining us after 8 years in the Freight industry. Her strong background in logistics, auditing and payment processes has parlayed well in day-to-day operations. She carries dual responsibilities in handling operational accounting and oversees large project reviews. She brings our sales team a valued sense of organization and problem solving skills.
Darren earned a double major in Biology and economics from Indiana University, graduating in 2005. Prior to joining our team in 2007, he worked as a project manager for a local general contractor. His experience with contractors, bid processes and specification standards have been a strong foundation for his transition into the lighting specification sales. Darren believes a strong attention to detail is key to a successful project.
Vernon has 30+ years of experience in the lighting Industry. Prior to starting with Specified Lighting in 2012 he was the direct factory representative for Lightolier. Through many years of various industrial sales positions, Vernon has developed a strong rapport with many of Indianapolis’ architects, engineers and contractors. His vast knowledge of lighting products allows him to offer relevant solutions to his customers.
Traci brings an abundance of project management, and large project coordination skills to our A/D marketing team. Prior to joining the lighting industry she was a major force in the Indianapolis event planning market, out-lining and negotiating for the prestigious Skyline Club for over 11 years. Her attention to detail, and can-do attitude have garnered her many customer accolades. Traci has a Bachelors degree in management (HTM) from Purdue University; which is known for its experiential, theoretical and analytical curriculum. Her current studies include Cooper Lighting’s Source Academy along with several other IESNA accredited courses.
Nicole started with us in May of 2004 after a successful career in the banking industry. She was discovered by several of our staff during business transactions. Her wit and charm so enamored us, that we decided she would be a fun addition to our inside sales team. Her organizational skills and pro-active attitude has helped Specified Lighting obtain a reputation for top notch customer service. After more than 8 years in customer care, she has moved into the senior quotations position, overseeing large architectural specification bids.
Jackie holds a degree from Purdue University in Interior Design/ Liberal Arts. She joined Specified Lighting Systems in 2006 after several years in retail design. She has gained industry knowledge through select courses at various lighting manufacturers, including GE’s Nela Park. Jackie has successfully completed numerous AGI32 training courses with Lighting Analysts at their studios in Denver, Colorado. Her strong understanding of AutoCAD, and architectural design processes, enables her to assist customers with lighting solutions for today’s complex environments.
Chad is a graduate of the I.U. Kelley School of Business, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Human Resource Management. Chad’s background, prior to lighting, includes retail and steel distribution. Chad is one of our key players on our Quotes Team, handling distribution sales.
Prior to starting with Specified Lighting in 2008, Kristina gained a well rounded background in office management. Due to the small nature of the family owned landscaping business, she learned how to juggle a multitude of responsibilities including accounting, human resource issues and project scheduling. Kristina’s go-getter attitude has helped to elevate Specified Lighting Systems’ reputation as a service-oriented company.
Steve joined us in 2013 after graduating from Marian University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He has held several positions with local volunteer societies and sharpens his construction skills on the weekends. Steve assists our quotes department with small quotes, factory pricing and submittal coordination.
David has 10 years of experience in the IT industry and was formerly the owner of an IT consulting firm in Indianapolis, IN. While providing IT services to Specified Lighting Systems, an opportunity opened to adapt his technical skills to the Lighting Controls field. In January 2012 David joined the team at SLS as a full time Lighting Controls Specialist. Through extensive training, David has garnered a certification for field programming through both Cooper Greengate and Leviton. David works with Specifiers, installing contractors and end-users to ensure each controls project goes as smoothly as possible.
Gabe joined our elite energy management design team in 2014. His technical career was launched in 2008 when he joined Indy Tech Pro’s as a Desktop Support representative. Soon thereafter he branched into server and network infrastructure, where his aptitude for troubleshooting landed him a position at Integrated Network Strategies. Gabe has become our leading in-house technical contact for all pre & post bid verifications, and bid structuring for control packages.
Andrew is a licensed electrician with over 12 years of field experience. He has worked for several of Indy’s finest electrical contractors, even owning his own company for over four years. Andrew’s area of expertise is in security and fire alarm design-build systems. He’s also well trained on the implementation and programming of large transfer switches, and operating systems for large generator systems. His diverse electrical and technical control background is an advantage to SLS’s electrical partners when assisting with their design/build project needs.
Jessica has fulfilled both an inside and outside sales role for Specified Lighting since September 2004. She brings with her a unique prospective with her background in lighting showrooms sales, training in residential lighting controls and three years as an electrician’s apprentice. Jessica’s strong sense of service and attention to detail carries over in her duties involving energy audits, design build projects, contractor and distributor sales. In June of 2011 she also took on the responsibilities of manager for the Ft. Wayne office.
Ron has been serving the Ft. Wayne commercial sales market for over 27 years. He is a native Indiana Hoosier moving to Ft. Wayne in 1976 with a degree in business science. Prior to this, he spent 3 years in the armed services in Viet Nam. He has represented Cooper Lighting in the Ft. Wayne area since 2001. Ron leads Specified Lighting as one of the company’s most astute and knowledgeable architectural sales associates.
Matt joined SLS in 2015 after several years as a computer technical assistant. He has a diversified background in repair, programming and website design. Prior to joining SLS’s sales team, he partnered with his father on a start-up web-based company. He was highly recommended to our team due to his strong interpersonal skills and customer service acumen.
Bobbi joined us in our Ft. Wayne office in June of 2007. She came on board with a strong customer service background earned from her time as an inside Project Manager for the local Graybar Distributorship. She brings Specified an understanding of sales procedures from her prior five years inside sales position at Parker Hannifin, a recognized name in engineered motion and control technologies. Bobbi is one of our key company players, due to the fact she covers a multitude of responsibilities for our Ft. Wayne office; she is responsible for inside quotations, customer service and project management for that region.
